J. GEILS BAND
J. GEILS BAND
J. Geils Band
(Atlantic/WEA)
J. Geils Band was formed in 1967 by Jerome Geils (guitar), Seth Justman (keyboards/songwriting), Danny Klein (bass), Magic Dick (harmonica), Peter Wolf (vocals), and Stephen Jo Bladd (drums). This fantastic album captures the sheer essence of this band, that combined blues, doo-wop, R&B, and rock 'n' roll. With classics like John Lee Hooker's 'Serves You Right To Suffer'and Albert Collins 'Snowcone' this band had it made. One of my favourite tracks from this album is Price's sexy 'Pack Fair & Square'. In 1985 the band folded. Wolf had now gone off to find his own glory (sadly) and guitarist J. Geils went on to form a blues band called Bluestime with his longtime friend Magic Dick. Although just a shadow of their former selves, they were still performing great blues. I feel regret that Wolf didn't return to the pack as this band could have found it's former glory. Back then they shared similarities to British R&B outfit 'Ace'.
