GOODSHIRT

(EMI)
Recent advertising for a Goodshirt show in the capital included the PR gem "The Auckland band it's OK for Wellingtonians to like". Joking aside, like 'em we do, and with good reason. The Goodshirt brand of value added indie pop rock incorporates slices of everything, but with two overriding key components.

The first is a quirkiness that has proved to be an almost essential ingredient to successful NZ bands over the years. Goodshirt's trump in this sound is synths that allow them to get away with cheeky punk tilts (Green), Cruel Sea-like instrumentals (Everyday), Devo inspired pop (Place To Be), or almost too cool shots at radio (Blowing Dirt).

The second key function is an overriding desire and determination to write great pop songs. This proves to be a devilishly cunning formula - I mean how can you resist the temptation of a song like Slippy? And as for the lyrics - well, they can best be described as genuinely unique and inspired. They are delivered by a singer who has obviously found his voice.

Goodshirt have come up with an enjoyably versatile first album that is very marketable. Good shit, erm, shirt. Out on their own Cement Records through EMI.
