GROUNDHOGS Split (BGO) Possibly one of the most powerful blues-rock outfits to come out of Ireland. If it weren't for Rory Gallagher's rock band 'Taste' dominating the scene at this time Tony McPhee's 'Groundhogs' could have been huge. Split opens with the title track in four parts (over 20 minutes in total) featuring some dynamic blues riffs and some mighty wow-wow guitar. Sure there are plenty of overdubs, but the tracks are sure to delight. 'Year In The Life', Junkman' & Ground Hog' are reasonable numbers, but it is 'Cherry Red' that is the apex of this album.
