ETTA JONES Lonely And Blue (Timeless Jazz Classics/Festival) If you have ever enjoyed the wonderfully warm vocals of Betty Carter, or Dinah Washington, then Etta Jones is someone you may want to check out. Her timing and phrasing is sometimes similar to Billie Holiday, and her renditions of 'In The Dark, 'Gee Baby, Ain't I good To You, plus 'But Not For Me' will leave you in awe. The backup musicians include the super horns of Budd Johnson, Gene Ammons, with Patti Brown on the ivories. Etta and her band compliment each other in a blue tone.
