NANCY KELLY
NANCY KELLY
Singin' & Swingin'
(Amherst)
Nancy is a singer who has impressive control of phrasing, and isn't shy about inputting her personality into a song; and this why so many critics have compared Nancy to Dianne Schuur. Fats Waller's 'The Joint Is Jumping' truly swings. Nancy's vocals are sultry and smokey during Cole Porter's 'At Long Last Love'. The ever gentle 'Young & Foolish' showcases both Nancy's vocal range and Steve Brown's guitar technique. Apart from the jazz standards Nancy even tackles the demanding Chaka Khan classic 'Through The Fire' with eloquent ease. Nancy is a master of timing as she proves this by giving her band space to expand on 'Jeannine'. For Nancy's finale she diplays a more commercial angle, complete with strings on Carol Bayer Sager's and Melissa Manchester's melodramatic 'Come In From The Rain'.
