CHEIKH LO
CHEIKH LO
Bambay Gueej
(World Circuit/Elite)
There are nine songs, co-produced by Youssou N’Dour and Nick Gold, and recorded at N’Dour’s Dakar studio, with additional recording in Havana. This is the follow up to the highly acclaimed debut album Ne La Thiass from Senegal’s rising star Cheikh Lo. Lo’s Dakar based band is augmented by a horn section, arranged and directed by Pee Wee Ellis (of James Brown and Van Morrison fame). There are special guest appearances from Mali’s Oumou Sangere, Cuba’s legendary flautist and founder member of Orchestra Aragon, Richard Egues and Aswad’s Bigga Morrison on Hammond organ. Drawing on sounds from Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali and Zaire, Cheikh Lo adds Cuban, funk and reggae influences into the mix.
