HERBIE MANN Peace Pieces (Lightyear/WEA) This is a sensitive and delightfully warm homage to Bill Evan's music. Assisting Herbie on this project is bassist Eddie Gomez, an Evan's veteran. Mann assembled some brilliant players for Peace Pieces i.e. Bruce Dunlap, Lewis Nash, Randy Brecker, and others. Orrin Keepnews a former friend and associate of Bill Evans, and now ex-producer for Riverside Records wrote the liner notes that are both enlightning and touching. All selections are Bill Evans originals including 'Blue In Green'. Bill claimed he wrote this, and not Miles Davis. It is rare to hear Bill Evans music played without piano; John McLaughlin did, and now so has Herbie.
