DELBERT McCLINTON
Delbert McClinton
(Curb/EMI)
If you want country meets rock'n'roll spiced with the blues then this is the album for you. Delbert McClinton opens with 'The Sun Medley' (Mystery Train, My Baby Left Me, That's All Right) which is Delbert's and Danny Gatton's tribute to Elvis Presley and Scotty Moore. Next up is Bill LaBounty's 'Tell Me About It' that is a country duet with Tanya Tucker. 'Weatherman' is a song from the movie Ground Hog Day that has a calypso theme flowing throughout. Delbert revives a rock'n'roll classic with 'Mary Lou'. Delbert performs a soulful rendition of John Hiatt's 'Have A Little Faith In Me'. Some of you may remember Dion & The Belmonts performing 'The Wanderer', well Delbert's version is a little bit more restrained and leans towards the blues. Delbert performed this track for the movie One Hot Summer. 'Just You And Me' is a song Delbert co-wrote with Donnie Fritts, and it is a brilliant ballad. 'One More Last Chance' is blues and is tinged with emotion. 'Lay Around And Love On You' is pure R&B. Delbert rounds off the album with the Butler & Mayfield's classic soul hit 'He Will Break Your Heart'. This is one of those sit around and drink albums, and it will go down well with your friends.
