NAIROBI TRIO
Standards

If you have enjoyed the French Café jazz-maestro's Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, then you are really going to love the Nairobi Trio; who are keeping this delightful tradition alive, with their infectious rhythms and timeless melodies.

'Jeepers Creepers' is swing with a zing, 'Autumn Leaves' is pure nostalgia, 'Georgia On My Mind' is whimsical and bluesy, 'My Favourite Things' has a melancholy, almost folk flavour; and completing this standards collection is Grappelli's and Reinhardt's 'Minor Swing' that really jumps to a 1930's rhythm.

Andrew Dixon recently joined the Nairobi's replacing the departed guitarist Nigel Gavin; and Andrew features extensively throughout Standards, as a saxophone player par-excellence, plus he shares vocals with violinist Richard Adams, guitarist John Quigley and bassist Peter Koopman.

Standards is Nairobi Trio's fifth album to date, and it is full of those delightful jazz melodies that is the Nairobi Trio's standard fare.

NAIROBI TRIO
Live At The McDonald Winery

They're not from Nairobi, they're not a trio, and they're definitely no strangers to the New Zealand jazz fraternity and fans alike.

They are Richard Adams (Violin/ lead vocals), Nigel Gavin (guitar/vcls), John Quigley (gtr/vcls) and Peter Koopman (bass).

Live At The McDonald Winery opens with Gavin's gypsy flavoured 'Puketapu', that Grappelli would have felt very much at home performing.

The rustic-folk flavour of Gavin's 'East Of Eden' showcases a different side to this extraordinary quartet.

'All Of My Tomorrows' is one of Richard's favourites, and on this he shows off his brilliant and sensitive violin technique.

'Swing Is The Thing', 'All Of Me', and 'Mack The Knife' are all Nairobi Trio concert favourites, and during these Richard gets to display his wonderful vocal talent.

A personal favourite of mine is the inclusion of Tony Rice's 'Is That So' that showcases Gavin's and Quigley's amazing dexterity.

Live At The McDonald Winery is Narobi Trio's second live album, and this truly captures their unique vitality and collective musicianship.
