KIM PAERSON
KIM PATERSON
Impending Journey
(Tap Records)
Kim is both a renowned, compentent percussionist with impeccable timing and a brilliant trumpet/flugelhorn player. Kim has played with many great musicians both here and abroad.

At last we see the very overdue and much welcomed debut Impending Journey.

On this journey Kim has the cream of local talent i.e. Jason Jones, Greg Touhey, Mark De Clive-Lowe, and many others.

Opening with the joint percussive forces of Miguel Fuentes and Nicholas McBride, Kim's 'Mink' reaches you with incredible Latin stride. Bassist Cameron Undy showcases on his own 'Lost & Found', which is strident in it's clever bop interplay. Pianist/composer extraordinaire Mike Nock and Kim co-wrote 'Tariqat', and this features Kevin Field (New Zealand's own Keith Jarrett) on piano.

Kim can jump from being similar to Chet Baker on 'Tariqat', to a flying Miles Davis during his own 'Miquel'; which is a tribute to Fuente's (this track also features Miguel).

Mark De Clive-Lowe is one of our greatest piano talents, and on his own 'Vision' he highlights his incredible usage of tricking timing.

Impending Journey is one of our greatest jazz albums to date.
