RENAISSANCE
Live At Carnegie Hall
(Repertoire)
This amazing group managed to blend classical, folk, rock and world-music styles to become one of the most innovative groups of the seventies.

Betty Thatcher was resposible for most of the lyrics, although never a member of the group.

The music was then down to the members John Tout on assorted keyboards and piano's, John Camp (electric bass) who used bass peddles, and fuzz-boxes to create the sometime driving ambience that was way ahead of it's time, plus Terry Sullivan on drums, with Micheal Dunford on guitars who was the groups music composer for most of Renaissance's greatest works. On lead vocals was Annie Haslam providing an astounding soaring operatic (several octaves) lead.

Live At Carnegie Hall is double-live set containing the very best Renaissance had to offer at this time. Songs performed were originally from the studio albums Prologue, Ashes Are Burning (this album featured Wishbone Ash's guitarist Andy Powell on the title track), Turn Of The Cards and Scheherazade & Other Stories.

Renaissance were one of the first groups to perform trans-global stylings in the form of Russian, French and Indian music being introduced into their compositions. Such is evident in the classic 'Scheherazade', and on this song Annie absolutely soars above the choir and orchestra.

This album, or any of their albums have to be heard to be believed.
