PHILIPPE SAISSE
PHILIPPE SAISSE
Halfway 'til Dawn
GRP/Universal Music
Philippe Saisse is an extraordinary keyboard player, and Halfway 'til Dawn is his debut for GRP Records (his previous two albums were on Verve, which is now GRP's sister company). Halfway 'til Dawn opens with 'Fusionesque', and as you may guess by it's title that this is fusion (pop & jazz). This lays down the template for the rest of the album. 'The Girl With Botticelli Eyes' is very smooth, and this also features guitarist Jeff Golub. 'Kinetic Groove' is spacey-modern dance, with Vanessa Falabella on background vocals. The title track sounds like a Vangelis/Rick Braun collaboration and features Jeff Beal on flugelhorn. African songstress Angelique Kidjo and Philippe both co-wrote 'La Vie', that is a beautiful, warm African ballad. 'La Grande Jatte' and 'Vol De Nuit' are jazzy influenced drum'n'bass. 'Love, Life, And The Universe' is rhythm & blues, and was co-written by it's singer Cara Jackson. Halfway 'til Dawn is an album of optimistic, evening music with jazz influences.
