ERIK SATIE
3 Gynopedies & Other Piano Works
(Decca/Universal)
Erik Satie is one of the few early 19th Century classical composers to
have recently influenced many musicians ranging from jazz-funksters 'Bossa
Nostra' (from Italy) and 'Brooklyn Funk Essentials' (from New York), through to Jose Padilla (compiler
of the Cafe Del Mar [1-6] series of albums).
Erik Satie's 'Gymnopodies' are gentle, melancholy and reflective; the
sort of music you put on when you are reading a novel on a rainy Sunday
afternoon.
Pascal Roge is possibly the greatest Satie influenced pianist to effectively bring out
this ambiance in Satie's works. When I wish to meditate this is one
of first albums I reach for.
