SIBELIUS
Filandia: Eugene Ormandy, Leonard Berstein
(Sony Essential Classics)
Many years ago I purchased a vinyl copy of Filandia which featured Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, and this album included several of Sibelius' most romantic works, plus some works by Brahms and others. The recording was superb, and sounded distincly Nordic, and even included the delightful 'Swedish Rhapsody'.

I am pleased to say that this budget CD released through Sony represents most of those amazing compostions.

Ormandy's contribution includes 'Valse Triste', 'Swan of Tuonela', and the 'Karelia Suite', whereas Bernstein's only contribution is 'Pohjola's Daughter'.
