CONNIE SMITH
The Essential
(RCA)
This superb package contains the majority of Connie's 60's country hits i.e. 'Cry Cry Cry', 'Cincinnati, Ohio', Gordon Lightfoot's 'Ribbon Of Darkness', Don Gibson's 'Just One Time' and the finale 'How Great Thou Art'. Most of the best songs were Bill Anderson compositions, and it was Bill that gave Connie her first big hit 'Once A Day'. The final song on this compilation describes where Connie has put her heart today. Connie is now married to an evangelist and she now sings gospel as part of her ministry. In her early career Bill Anderson, Mel Tillis and Chet Atkins all had a hand in shaping what was Patsy Cline's greatest rival as the Queen of Country.
