JAMES SOLBERG
JAMES SOLBERG
L.A. Blues
(Atomic Theory)
Solberg is often considered to be Luther Allison's right hand and key writing partner. James was also instrumental in bringing Luther back to the limelight. L.A. Blues opens with the driving 'Bubba's Boogie' that is further emphasised by James' flashy guitar licks and John Lindberg's walking bass. The title track cuts through to the soul with it's heartfelt tribute to (the soul fixing man) Luther Allison. Pianist Mike Vlahakis gets to unwind on 'Wally World U.S.A'. Beautifully interpreted is Dylan's 'Ballad To The Thin Man'. 'Must Be A Reason' is quite jazzy. 'Rhumba Slice' leans to Latin. Sadness pervades all over Solberg's 'Say Goodbye'. 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee' is pure gospel blues; 'Happy Snails' is a piss take on 'Happy Trails'.
