STEELY DAN Aja (MCA/Universal) Pretzel Logic is my favourite Steely Dan album, whereas seated neatly between The Royal Scam and Goucho is Aja; which was the dynamic turning point of this famed duos (Donald Fagen & Walter Becker) repertoire. They slipped out of late night blues-rock stylings, and straight into some cool jazz leanings with relative ease; and meantime took the music world by storm. 'Black Cow', 'Home At Last', 'Peg', 'Josie', and 'I Got The News' all attest to this amazing transition. On board assisting in this terrific groove are super session musicians i.e. Don Grolnick, Steve Khan, Joe Sample (my favourite pianist), Tom Scott, Steve Gadd, Plas Johnson (sax-Mr Pink Pather), and many others (too many to mention).
