TERRY STRINGER
Daylight
Kosmos Records
If you ever needed to get away from the fast-paced jet-set World with it's traffic jams and angst then Daylight might just be just for you. Terry Stringer is the son of the famous Plainsmen: Claude Stringer who gave us the country hit song 'The Ballad Of Waitaki'. Terry plays beautiful, intimate acoustic gems on his twelve string guitar, and weaves dreams from story songs. Terry could very well be the next budding Bob Dylan. On first hearing Daylight I was reminded of his vocal similarities to Gordon Lightfoot and Jim Croce. Terry throws in the occasional instrumental, and it is 'Diablo-Blo' that showcases Terry's awesome dexterity. Terry is a singer-songwriter, and yet I believe his album Daylight defies classification. It's not for everyone, but it is some of the best acoustic music to come out of New Zealand in a long time.
