HORACE TAPSCOTT
HORACE TAPSCOTT
Thoughts Of Dar Es Salaam
(Arabesque)
From a master of the ivories comes another dynamic masterpiece. Thoughts Of Dar Es Salaam opens with 'As A Child' that is reminiscent of Errol Garner meets Tatum & Jamal. The versatility of range that confronts you is boundless; as Horace will dance from graceful melodies to artful, fancy-free bouncing tangents with eloquent ease. The time keepers here are the legendary Drummond & Hart. Tapscott like Garner flutters around his introductions then transcends into blissful melodies. 'Sandy & Niles' has strong McCoy Tyner/Count Basie rhythms. 'Social Call' is comparable to 'Fascinating Rhythm' through coloured glass. Sonny Rollins 'Oleo' is a cat & mouse chase through chords at breath-taking speed. Tapscott performs Parker's 'Now's The Time' in the manner of his mentors Monk & Randy Weston.
