TCHAIKOVSKY
1812 Overture: Eugene Ormandy & Philadelphia Orchestra
(BMG Classics)
I purchased the vinyl edition of this fantastic work about 30 years ago, and hunted high and low to get the CD edition when it came out.

This is my favourite recording of Tchaikovsky's '1812 Overture'. My greatest disappointment with this reissue is the omission of 'Wellington's Victory' composed by Beethoven.

Although the painting on this CD is excellent, I would have prefered the original cover painting by Frank Gauna. I've included the original album cover art, with the CD cover art for your pleasure. If you have any comments about this please don't hesitate to contact me.

Apart from this I am more than pleased that 'Capriccio Italian', 'Marche slave', 'Francesca da Rimini' have been included.

On this gigantesque work are 250 musicians, electronic cannon (that sounds awfully authentic), The Philadelphia Brass Bands, bells and the Temple Choirs. Absolutely awesome!
