TOPP TWINS Grass Highway www.topptwins.co.nz Grass Highway is one of the finest country albums to come out in New Zealand this year, and includes the sterling support of Martin Winch and Billy Kristian. The Topp Twins have revived Eddie Low's classic 'Songs Of Home', along with their own theme 'Untouchable Girls'. 'Big Ole Moon' sounds like a reworking of Guy Mitchell's 'Singin' The Blues', and 'One Horse Town' tells the tale of a typical little Kiwi country town. And there's 'Fire In The Barn' that's very danceable. Yodels include the Celtic flavoured 'Returning Home', 'Pinto, Pony And I', and the delightful 'Tijuana Rose', that is strongly reminiscent of Patti Page's singing style. Pianist Stuart Pearce melds his flowing playing style with the Topp Twins amazing harmonies during the melodic 'Milestones'. And only the Topp Twins could have combined country music with a hula to give us 'Pacifica', which is so appropriate for Aoteroa. Gazz Click on album image to see larger album cover |
