ALI FARKA TOURE Niafunké (Elite) This is Ali Farka Toure’s first album since Talking Timbuktu (recorded with Ry Cooder). It was recorded in Ali’s village, Niafunké, which sits on he banks of the River Niger on the edge of the Sahara Desert in central Mali. 'Deep Mali', as Ali calls it 'where the music belongs'. 'I know all the western tunings but they are no good to me at all'. 'You can call it the African blues - and I know where he blues comes from - but me it’s just the music of my people'.
