TROY TURNER
TROY TURNER
Blues On My Back
(Telarc/Elite)
What starts as an American Woman & Bo Diddley riff becomes 'World Without Fear'. What a start, what a variation on typical blues! Troy then dives into jump-blues with Arthur Gunter's 'Baby Let's Play House'. Buddy Guy/Junior Wells influences flow throught Troy's own 'Blues On My Back'. 'Lonely Cafe' is a whole lot more intimate. Troy's 'Later Than You Think' is strongly reminiscent of Sonny Boy Williamson's 'Help Me'. Now here's the real guitar test...Freddie King's 'Hideaway', is the measure of a true blues-guitar master with it's many polytechnic chord changes, and Troy glows! 'Going Back To Lousiana' is soooo soulful and features what I believe to be Troy's finest fret work. Duke Robillard's 'If This Is Love' truly rocks. 'Black Cat Moan' has Albert King references. Troy shares style similarities to Larry McCray during 'Protection'. Troy rounds off Blues On My Back with 'Mojo Boogie', that even sounds like Johnny Winter who covered it in 1986 on 3rd Degree.
