VAYA CON DIOS
Vaya Con Dios
(BMG/Ariola)
Vaya Con Dios is from Belgium and originated as vocalist Dani Klein and bassist Dirk Schoufs with added guest musicians. The group has since 1988 undergone many lineup changes, with Dani being the only constant.

This album was their debut and still stands as being their greatest release. Dani's vocals are smokey, husky and powerful, with a real sensual qaulity. Gipsy-jazz would be one way to describe Vaya Con Dios.

'Don't Cry For Louie' opens Vaya Con Dios; this is a song about a pimp named Louie and a prostitute giving advice to one of Louie's new lovers.

'The Moonshiner' is a hopping jazzy number about a man with a drinking problem.

'Lord Help Me Please' is a plea with a little moral story.

'Lay Your Hands(Off My Man) is kinda bitchy. Dani must have suffered as she sings a lot about women's adversity and trials and what to do about it; and 'Lulu's Song' is just that, and that ain't a bad thing.

Just like 'Louie' here comes that gipsy-swing again with 'Just A Friend Of Mine'.

'Sold My Soul' is about abandoment and another plea for help.

'One Silver Dollar' is a that dollar's journey and the places it has seen.

'Philadelphia' has a strutting soul flavour.

One of the most dynamic and textured tracks on Vaya Con Dios is 'Remember' that is about a wild gipsy.

One of Schouf's greatest compositions is 'Puerto Rico' that is Latin and passionate. 'Puerto Rico' also showcases the delightful Spanish guitar playing of Bert De Corte and Antonio Paz.

Capping this album is a song by Les Paul, 'Johnny, Tu N'Es Pas Un Ange', and it is delightfully cafe. Ask anyone who owns this album and they will tell you that it is among their favourites.
