THE WATERBOYS
THE WATERBOYS
A Rock In The Weary Land
(BMG)
A new Waterboys album after seven long years!

Thighpaulsandra pedals out most of the atmospheric soundscapes to which Mike Scott adds his electric guitars and heady, aching vocals.

'Let It Happen' is a rock anthem that opens gently, then explodes all over you with both speakers blazing, and this precedes the Beatle-ish title track; 'A Rock In The Weary Land'. This shares similarities to 'A Day In The Life' with its sweeping overtures, plus a gospel element added by the London Community Choir. 'It's All Gone' and 'Malediction' are Scott solos that add a vital contrast. The extremely psychedelic 'Dumbing Down The World' is like listening to a violent radio broadcast that slips in and out of the reception range.

On this amazing album Mike Scott is at his charismatic best with his ever-changing musical tapestries and in your face lyrics.
