WORLD PLAYGROUND Various Artists (Putumayo/Elite) After receiving hundreds of cards and letters from parents and teachers telling us how much children love dancing, singing, and listening to Putumayo CDs, we are pleased to release our first kid's CD. World Playground: A Musical Adventure for Kids is a collection of great songs from around the world that the family can enjoy together. This CD takes children and parents on a musical journey to faraway places where they can be introduced to other people and places around the world. A trip to the World Playground makes exploring other cultures a fun adventure for music fans of all ages. When I was a child, I danced around the house to the music of Danny Kaye and others. The music made me so happy. Unfortunately, there wasn't much international music available in America in the l950's. The world has changed a lot since those days and the music of many different countries can now be found. Music is very powerful. Not only can it make you feel good, but It can help you learn about other cultures. People from other countries have rich experiences and musical traditions that are different from our own. Yet, they also have some remarkable similarities. Through music, we can see the incredible diversity of human experience and begin to understand the value of difference. Rhythms, melodies and instruments have travelled across oceans and combined with local musical traditions to create new and exciting music. Music captures the soul of a people, and when one hears music of other lands, they are connected to the heartbeat of that culture. Music rocks!
