During the later half of the Breach tour, the
Wallflowers started working on their 4th album. As soon as they finished
the last show of their regular tour, Michael announced that he would no longer
be part of the band.
The Wallflowers are currently in the studio finishing their cd and have decided not to add a new member to the band. Instead, they will remain a 4-piece band, and Jakob will take over the duties of lead guitarist. Unlike previous cd's the band will play most of the parts themselves and will not have studio musicians except for a "friend or two, no heavies" It will be produced by Bill Appleberry and ex-Wallflower member Tobi Miller. The Wallflowers hope to have their cd done in July or August. Right now, they are in the process of mixing. Like always, they plan on having an extensive tour to promote their cd. Minibar-Band opening for the Wallflowers this summer. They are from the UK but relocated to the LA area. Their new disc called "Road Movies" has just been released. They wanted T-Bone Burnett to produce it because they liked the sound of "Bringing Down the Horse." Joe Henry-Friend of the band. Mario, Greg, Rami, and Jake have joined him onstage for surprise appearances. His album, "Fuse," features Rami, Jakob, and Greg. One of the posters for "the Difference" video says Joe Henry. All the posters in that video are real posters although some have been changed slightly. The Color Green-Rami produced their CD "It'll be Alright." Both Rami and Ben Peeler appear on the disc. Jakob's Influences and Likes include: The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Van Morrison, Tom Petty, Radiohead, Joe Henry, Garbage, the Buzzcocks, X, the Replacements, Paul Westerberg, Sam Cooke, Charlie Rich, the Everly Brothers Greg went to college at Boston University and majored in Film and Television. Bob Dylan, Elliot Smith, the Beastie Boys, Lauren Hill, Joe Henry, Jeff Buckley- Mario's Influences and Likes Natalie Merchant-The Wallflowers have opened for her in the past and Peter Yanowitz now plays drums for her. Fiona Apple - Greg guests on Fiona's first CD "Tidal" and Macy Gray's "On How Life Is." Shared the same manager, Andy Slater. Macy Gray-Also shared the same manager. Greg and Rami both appear on "On How Life Is" which Andy Slater produced. John Mellencamp-The Wallflowers are opening for his tour in the summer of 2001. Greg and Jakob attended a private school named The Winward School where they met. Maypole, Jayhawks, Minibar, The John Doe Thing- Have been Wallflower openers America- Mario's dad was the touring keyboardist for the group. The Counting Crows- Co-headlined with the Wallflowers in their 1997 tour. The Wallflowers have opened for: The Rolling Stones, The Who, Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers, John Mellencamp, Cracker, The Spin Doctors, Sheryl Crow, Natalie Merchant, Blues Traveler and Chris Issak. Richie Sambora- solo artist and member of Bon Jovi- Requested "One Headlight" on MTV Live and Rami appears on his album. Blues Traveler- John Popper joined the Wallflowers onstage for "Mourning Train". Neil Young- The Wallflowers performed two dates at "The Bridge School Benefit" where they played a cover of Young's "Don't Cry No Tears" with his permission. Elvis Costello- Sings background vocals on "Murder 101". Frank Black- Sings background vocals on "Letters from the Wasteland" and also appeared on "Bringing Down the Horse." Mike Campbell- A member of the Heartbreakers who provided the guitar part for "Sixth Avenue Heartache" and also plays on "Breach." David Fincher- Director for "Sixth Avenue Heartache." Other movies he has directed include Seven and Fight Club. David Fincher got an advance copy of Bringing Down the Horse and contacted the band about directing their video. Canter's Deli and the Viper Room- Sites in LA where the Wallflowers played gigs before they became famous. The Mint- Club where Jakob and Andy Slater discovered Mario Two-Piece- Mario's former band. Kevin Spacey- Actor who is a fan of the Wallflowers. On "The Late Show with David Letterman" said that he wore the same suit as Jakob to Vh1 Honors. He has also surprised them and posed as a roadie during a few shows. School of Fish, Tiny Buddy, Strip Search- Michael's side projects. KISS, Radiohead, Jimi Hendrix, Bjork, Massive Attack, AC/DC, Josh-Clayton Felt- Michael's Influences and Likes Mark Seliger- Rolling Stone magazine's chief photographer who did all photographs for the booklet in "Bringing Down the Horse". Also shot the photos for RS's 1997 feature with the Wallflowers. In addition, Mark thanks Jakob and his wife in his book, Physiognomy. There are multiple versions of
Breach: UK import- this includes only one cd, but it is enhanced with the Sleepwalker video and the demo version of Sleepwalker. I've found this one at Tower Records (which also sells online at www.towerrecords.com) Ben Peeler was the touring guitarist and lap steel player added for the Breach tour.
