Q: How did you end up getting signed to your label?

Well, they're my friends and I started working with them five years ago, I did an album with them, the one that is out in Europe, that was in Spanish... and now this is the first one with them in English.

Q: Are you looking forward to attacking the American market?

That is the whole idea...

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

I started in a band called Timbiriche, we toured the world when I was 8; I have 23 albums...

¿ Quick fact ? Paulina has never been able to imagine herself as anything else besides an artist. It's no wonder considering she went on her first tour at 8 years old.

Q: You have 23 albums! Isn't there some child labor law against that?

I left the group after 10 years and went to England. I signed with Universal and now, here I am...

Q: Where are you originally from?

I was born in Mexico, I am from Mexico City.

Q: Where did you visit for tours?

With Timbiriche, I toured Brazil and a lot of Latin America. And alone, I went to Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, and right now we are about to go to Asia... have you ever been to Asia?

Q: Why, do you care to take me (laughs)? Who were some of your influences?

How does Paulina feel she compares to Jennifer Lopez and Shakira?

Q: Heavy-duty influences... you are coming to America, and I'm sure you know, there are some Latin influenced sounds out there... Jennifer Lopez, Shakira... how would you stack up or compare to them?

I do not compare myself to them because we are all different. I grew up from a different country. There are a lot of influences from different countries in my music. For example, I chose the guitar in my music, I think that it is a feminine instrument, so when I do not sing, the music expresses my voice. I love Mexican guitars, acoustic guitars, flamenco guitars from Spain, I also like electric guitars... so when I do not sing, that sends the message...

Q: So you play the guitar on your album?

A little bit, I also play the piano and the drum...

Q: Ooh la, la, a woman on drums -- you like pounding skin?

But I love to dance and feel the rhythm as well...

Q: Do you prefer dancing or singing?

I cannot sing without dancing (laughs), you need a rhythm... even when I am recording, they need to give me plenty of microphones, because I am hyperactive, I move a lot...

Q: I've seen your videos, I am all too familiar with your moves...

I cannot feel the music without moving... it is out of my control -- you know?

¿ Quick fact ? Paulina feels that she shouldn't be compared to J-Lo or Shakira because each of them has their own unique sound and flavor.

Q: We know... we love it. Which instrument do you prefer?

I am not a musician. I think I am, how do you say... those are my hobbies, but I am not a great musician. I prefer to write, to explode and move around on my stage...

Q: Which of the countries that you visited did you like most?

I love Greece and I love Egypt... I like old civilizations, so I love to go to Mykonos, but my favorite spot was Ibiza... I love Turkey as well, it was peaceful. I was there for work, but I learned about the culture, the people, the food, and the music...

Q: What kind of food do you like?

All types of food... Italian food, I love vegetables, salads, soups... I miss my mom's chicken soup...

Q: How does your mom feel about your career, is your family supportive?

They are very happy and very excited. They miss me but they understand.

Q: What do you do in your spare time?

I love water sports... that is why most of the time when I am not working, I am in Barcelona or in Miami, where it is my home... I am also in Los Angeles when I am in America -- I love being near the ocean. I like to discuss philosophy, drink tequila and talk to friends.

Q: Philosophize over tequila? What do you like to read?

Nietzsche, I like to get deep sometimes...

Q: We can get as deep as you would like Paulina... you mention Tequila -- do you like to party?

When I can, I love to go out with my friends, dance, have supper with them...

Q: What kind of clubs do you like?

I like to chill out with club music.

Q: What kind of man do you like?

I love intellectual guys; I like to have great conversations, to know them, their brain... I enjoy that. I need a strong personality.

Q: How many guys approach you? Do any pickup lines work on you? I need guys to leave me my space -- I cannot have a guy control my life. I like to be with my band, if my friends want to pass by, that cannot be an issue.

Q: If you were a man for a day, what would be the one thing you would do?

I do not know (laughs). I think that men and women have a percentage of female and male in them. I have a high percentage of male characteristics inside me -- Mexican girls are very strong... because of the Revolution, the macho men around us, the women are very tough characters...

¿ Quick fact ? Paulina enjoys the glamour of being a star and takes any and every opportunity to dress up for the world.

Q: How much time do you spend in Mexico?

As much as I can... but I am on the road quite a bit. I have a beautiful place along the Pacific Ocean.

Q: How do Mexicans feel about you leaving Mexico to target the world?

First of all, they know me very well... not just Mexicans, but Brazilian and Italian fans as well. They know me very well and they knew that I was doing things to get to the world's market. That is why my album is called Border Girl, I have no borders... I want to reach more people... break borders between countries, people, relationships...

Q: How do you define success?

I want to cross borders with my music, with all my feelings and ideas... I want to reach more people.

Q: How would you describe Paulina Rubio?

I am very independent, very strong. I am very loyal, with my family, with my roots and culture...

Q: My misconception with Latin women was that they were not the most independent women out there... why is it that in reality, there are so many strong and independent Latin women?

Because of our history, we have fought many wars; men were away so women were the center of the family...

Q: You can be the center of my family any day Paulina... thank you for your time.
