Her friends
She always goes back to them
She knows many people, but her friends can be counted on her fingers.
Perhaps they are the only ones that don't see shakira as an artist but a friend. For that reason, she would travel anywhere in the world just to spend a special day in their company: they are her friends. She herself says, "I know many people, but in reality I only have a few true friends, almost all from my hometown Barranquilla."
The list begins at home, with her parents, whom she defines as her best friends. She tells them everything and always consults with them. A close friend of Shakira said that the easiness with which she and her mother hold an unusual conversation between mother and daughter. "They talk about everything, about sexuality, about kissing, about intentions, about men. Because of that, when Shakira says that Doña Nidia is her best friend, she's serious." Her father, on his part, is her main follower when the f inger when she thinks about doing something crazy and is something like her guardian - he's always hanging around about to pick up the scraps of paper on which she writes verses of songs.

Since she was 5 years old, she has had a group of friends with whom she studied from preschool to high school graduation. Carlos Vanegas is the friend that she never forgets. He was her artistic promoter while she resided in Baranquilla, and was also the producer, together with Heriberto Fiorillo, of a TV special about her life. He's one of the few people besides her family that know her house in Miami. "The last time that I saw her was last year, in September, at her house in Miami. I saw that she was very secure, with everything around her under complete control, but with very little time to share with her friends due to her commitments. About the rest, she is still just as charismatic and simple.
She met Xilena Aycardi on El Oasis, and although there isn't time now to see each other, they keep in tough. "I couldn't go to the album release because I just had an operation, but we still communicate, not just with Shakira but with Doña Nidia, who was like my second mother, while we were recording the soap opera, she always treated me very well."
Xilena went to Miami to spend the New Year but could not see Shakira because she was in India. I said hello to doña Nidia and she invited me to stay, but I had to go back."
Of her neighborhood friends in Barranquilla the singer stays friends with Vanesa Vengoechea. She invited her during holidays past to eat caviar, one of her favorite dishes. Just like with her high school girlfriends, every time that they see each other, they talk about everything, except her career.
In Miami Shakira counts on the friendship of Patrica Téllez, her manager, who accompanies her everywhere, and is concerned about both the musical part and the human facet.
In the same way Emilio Estefan, whom she has known for 2 years, and whom she has proclaimed as one of the best things that have happened in her life, appeared when Shakira had a lot of fears and confusion and helped her to fight them.
