The two NYC roommates were sitting at their kitchen table, one reading the Sports section to the Times, the other reading the front page. Both were simultaneously reading and eating their breakfasts, slices of leftover pizza from the night before.
“Hey Tara,” one girl said. “Listen to this.”
“What’s up, Amy?” Tara asked.
“English band BBMak makes special appearance tonight at the Ballroom on 3rd Avenue,” Amy began. “This event coincides with the release of their newest single ‘The Ghost of You and Me’. Doors open at 7:30 and the concert begins at 8:15. Seating is limited to the first 200 people that purchase tickets. Tickets cost $40 each, with proceeds benefiting charity. Only those over the age of 21 may enter the show.”
“A show? Tonight? Mark’s gonna get it now. He didn’t even let me know he was going to be in the area, let alone doing a show,” Tara fumed.
“Um…Tara, he did let you know. Didn’t you listen to the message from a couple days ago? I told you Mark called,” Amy reminded.
“Damn…forgot about to listen to it. It’s gone by now,” Tara answered.
“Doesn’t he have the cell phone? Call him,” Amy replied.
“He doesn’t have it any more. He relies on those damn phone cards. But I can call Christian. He always has his phone,” Tara said, jumping from her seat and dropping the sports section on the floor.
“Hey Christian!” Tara said after speed-dialing Christian’s cell. “Mark around?”
“He and Ste are doing something or another. Not sure what. I’ll have him call you when he gets back,” Christian said.
“Everything all right Christian? You sound sad,” Tara asked.
“Just saw my girl last night is all. You know how it goes with her,” Christian answered.
“That bad, huh?” Tara asked.
“Worse than you can expect,” Christian answered.
“I hope it gets better soon,” Tara said.
“Thanks,” Christian replied.
“How’s everything?” Amy asked when Tara returned to the kitchen.
“Mark and Ste are out and left Christian alone. And he saw her last night too,” Tara told Amy.
“The left him alone? Ste’s gonna get it,” Amy said.
