How would you describe your style of music??
If you were to put Abba, ACDC, The Beatles and Nine Inch Nails into a giant flesh blender and hit puree, you would get AntiProduct.
How was your visit to Japan supporting the Wildhearts last month?
It was beautiful. In Japan you are guaranteed respect just for deciding to become a musician. We received incredible treatment which i'm sure will never leave our minds. It was such an unbelievable experience.
Although I did fuck up at the biggest night of the tour. God decided to give me a humbling experience when I started feeling too much like a Rock and Roll star. I sprayed myself with some spray paint then chucked the can into the crowd, consequently it went everywhere and ended up causing $15,000 worth of damage, and as we had been treated so well there I really felt like shit and knew that I had an obligation and responsibility to clean it up. So while the rest of these guys (the band) were literally being mobbed by hoards of fans outside the venue, I was inside on my hands and fucking knees scrubbing the spraypaint off the floor! It certainly brought me back down to earth!
What would you say is the best think about Britain?
The people. I dont like the price of Alcohol, Beer, Petrol or Cigaretts but I do like the weather, it's cool!
Are you looking forward to playing the Bulldog Bash tommorow?
Yeah, like crazy. The Bulldog Bash is going to be the biggest gig we've ever played. Its going to be a total learning experience, its gonna go off. God knows what's gonna happen.
Which do you prefer to play, big or small venues?
It doesnt matter. Our job is to give as much as we possibly can, whether we're playing infront of 1 person of 1,000,000 people.
Have you had any strange fan requests?
None that we can tell you about!!We've had a lot of people asking "Will you sleep with my wife?"! We do tend get a few weird ones due to the fact we sell our body fluids.
Do many peole purchase bodily fluids off your website?
Yeah, a frightening amount of people actually. We sell about 3 a week so we're always on at Simon (the drummer, aka, the gonk!)to shit in plastic containers!
Is fame improtant to you?
There was a time when it was extraordinarly important to me but one day I realised that I was so lucky just to be able to play and it was then when I let go of my quest for fame that my profile raised. I now realise that it's not about fame but people respecting what we do. But hell, having said that, I sure would like to be famous!
Do you have any rituals you go through before and after a gig?
Yeah but we're not telling you. We probably shouldnt have let you in here (the dressing room)actually, not unless you want to see naked men strapped to a launchchair with hosepipes shuved up their arses anyway!
Whose idea was it to market your own beer? How much does it cost? Where can we get it? and can we have some?
You can get it from a bunch of pubs around the country, its called AntiProduct Ale and the man who makes it is a master brewer.
Who do you most admire?
Everyone else in the band. Ive never seen such hardwork and dedication from anyone else. They deserve the upmost respect.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
You know, I dont even want to question where it comes from. I'm just glad the music's there when I want her to be and I feel lucky that I'm able to express myself and write songs about stuff that I'm still trying to figure out.
You've got a song called 'Hey, Lets Get It On', who would you most like to get it on with?
Simon the Gonk. Ah, come on Simon dont look at me like that. Ok, he wont let me say that so I'll go for my Mum instead.
Why?
Why? Well You havent seen my Mum have you? She looks a lot like me, im narcissistic, its an ego inflation!
Have you got any favourite bands?
I like anyone who is original and goes against the trend. They're the ones you remember and respect and who expand the language of music.
Whats your opinion on manufactured bands then?
They're great. They give us something to laugh at!
What do you think of the kind of music thats making it into the charts nowadays??
There's a lot of pre-milleniumal bullshit around.
What, like Nu-Metal?
Yeah all that stuff. There isn't a lot of music telling people, "You know what, life doesnt suck" Yeah our parents dont understand us but......I have a big problem with that. Also a lot of bands are completely taking themselves too seriously. No one works harder than AntiProduct so we take the music exremely seriously but that's it, we dont take ourselves too seriously at all, we don't need to prove anything.
Have you ever injured yourself at a gig due to you bizzare onstage antics??
I don't think you have enough time for me to tell you about them all!! Toshi (bassist) got a pretty bad injury once. We were playing a gig in Wales and decided to play a song we have called 'I live in England'. A few seconds in some stupid piece of bullshit chucked a glass bottle in Toshi's face. He had blood pooring from his nose and mouth, it was pretty bad. But I think my worst injury has to be when we were playing this gig at the Mean Fidler in London. I had an idea to stagedive into the crowd but Toshi was like "No, there's Japanese kids at the front, they'll move!" but I did it anyway and of course, they moved and I ended up face down on the concrete. I must have been out cold for about 3 minutes(..hey, stop laughing you arseholes!...!!!!)and the only thing that bought me back round was hearing this voice way back in my consciousness saying "OH MY GOD HE'S DEAD!" I got picked up, chucked over some guys shoulder to be taken to hospital and I just said, "NO, They think I'm dead, put me back on stage!" I ended up finishing off the show hanging from this chain on the ceiling, it wasnt very smart of me.
What would your message be to everyone who loves you and everyone who hates you?
Well, to the ones that hate us, I dont know what we could have done to offend them to even answer that. But to the ones who love us..... it's very humbling to see such genuine love and care we get from our fans. They are the ones who know what we say.
************************************************************************************************
wow, can that man talk!! He was talking about something for 15 miutes before we had even asked him a question!! He was a top bloke though, and so was the rest of the band. They even dedicated a song to us and made us get on stage while they played it. If you have the chance to see them, do it! We love Antiproduct!
