Memories drift back as I looked at this picture,
to the picture of you and Grandma on the front porch.
At that time you were just a small lass.
Green eyes that shown like dew on the morning grass.
Dark brown curly locks falling around your face.
Helen was your name, a name befitting an angel of grace.
The Smiles you wore and the hugs you gave
when greeting surprise guests at the door.
Always room for one more at the table you would say.
Never was anyone turned away.
Endless hours did you spend tending to us
guiding us and teaching us about life.
Never complaining, never letting us know
that you sacrificed for us.
You taught us to be kind and think of others first
Never a bad word about others did you say.
Just do your best and try your best
and let the Lord guide your way.
