Fab Fashions of the Swinging Sixties

The style on this page is not for the faint hearted, so if you can't handle a few staring eyes then turn back now. Some of the ideas lean towards those of the modette, but I'd never swear on my copy of Quadrophenia that they were the definitive look because being a modette is not something you can learn from a book or a webpage now matter how informative or up-to-date it is. When it comes to being a modette, you either are one or you aren't.

This page is here to help you get an idea of how to achieve a sixties style look, but it won't transform you into a modette overnight. No-one can create a mod, the difference between a true Mod and a Ticket can be in as little as the way they walk, and even being a Ticket takes enough hard work and research to make any University Student collapse with stress, but this site culd be a good start.

Another good start is to check out the site 1966 which will increase your knowledge of the fab fashions of the swinging sixties... as well as apperently identifying the American definition of Mod (WARNING: European Mods, take a deep breath, remain calm while reading, and view with an open mind. Otherwise you might blow a gasket. Remember, mod is about individualism and every mod has a different idea these days what is and isn't mod... oh for the black and white clear cut days of the modernist beginnings! And don't preach at me either, I get in enough heated discussions during a quiet night at the local R&B club!).

If you are going for the modette look then you may find a few tips here on how to get started or how to perfect a few techniques, but you will need to learn the rest by being part of the crowd and becomming a bit of a perfectionists on all the varied aspects of The Scene. But before you go down that road you need to know that the modette look isn't so much about being pretty pretty as it is about being stylish, striking and a little (if not a lot) outrageous. A modette is much more a pop art statement than a doll, and if you can't handle looking like Peggy Moffit (whoever said Americans didn't understand mod!) then ignore the majority of the ideas on this page and go for the Dolly Look - striking, outrageous and screaming of the swinging decade, yet ever so pretty at the same time.

Any additional tips, links or pictures that you think should be shared with the sixties style crowd would be gratefully received, and you can mail me with them or any other helpful comments.
