Sudhir Pandey Sudhir
Pandey is one of India's leading tabla players. He started his
training, at age 8, with his father Arjun Pandey and Bhagwat Singh of
Ajrada (Delhi and Benaras styles). Pandey has attained a beautiful
combination of these traditional schools. He is an A grade artiste
on India's national radio and television. His reputation put
him in demand with renowned artists such as Vilayat Khan, Nikhil Banerji,
Amjad Ali Khan, Girija Devi, Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Ramnarayan, and Rajan -Sajan
Mishra. |
Pranesh Khan
Visiting Performer & Instructor Pranesh Khan is a master Tabla player whose musical career includes performances with many noted Western and Eastern musicians, including the Philadelphia String Quartet, Paul Horn, John Handy, Alice Coltrane and the Shanti and Third Eye fusion bands, Ali Akbar Khan, Aashish Khan, Nikhil Banerjee, Lakshmi Shankar and G.S. Sachdev. Pranesh is familiar to and beloved of Bay Area audiences, draws on the great heritages of his grandfather Baba Allauddin Khan and father Ali Akbar Khan. He is a representative of the Punjab and Lucknow gharanas as well as being a disciple of the Farukhabad gharana. He has studied with tabla masters Kanai Datta, Shankar Ghosh, Alla Rakha and Zakir Hussain. He is currently studying with master Swapan Chaudhuri |
Pandit Sadanand Naimpalli
Tabla Master, Solo Artist and Teacher He won the President's award for standing first at the All India Radio Competitions held on a National scale in 1963, when barely sixteen years old. Sadanand not only won fresh laurels at various music competitions but also began participating in various music conferences alongside-recognised stalwarts. Sadanand's first visit abroad came at the tender age of seventeen years, when having been adjudged the most accomplished young Tabla player at the Inter University Youth Festival, he was selected by the Indian Government and UNESCO to tour Europe. Thereafter, he has had many more tours to the United States of America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Subhen Chatterjee The senior-most disciple of the Tabla maestro, Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Subhen Chatterjee has established himself as one of the finest young Tabla players of India today. Without restricting himself solely to the art of Tabla playing, Subhen has expanded his talent by creating a Fusion Orchestra group called Karma. Subhen has collaborated with such eminent artists as Paul Horn and David Cosby and is also a performing artist for the World Organization of Music and Dance (WOMAD) founded by Peter Gabriel. Subhen Chatterjee has been accompanying legendary artists such as Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Jasraj, Pandit V.G. Jog, Smt. Girija Devi, Smt. Sobha Gurtu, Smt. Joya Biswas, Shahid Parvez, Buddhaditya Mukherjee, Rashid Khan, Viswa Mohan Bhatt, Aashish Khan and a host of others in international recordings and in concerts throughout the world.

Samir Chatterjee
is one of India's leading tabla players. Born into a musical family in Calcutta, he began his studies early with Pandit Bankim Ghosh, Pandit Balaram Mukherjee, Pandit Rathin Djar, and Mohammad Salim. His later formation as a musician occurred under the guidance of Pandit Amalesh Chatterjee and Pandit Shyamal Bose. All of Samir's teachers have been from the Farrukhabad Gharana school of tabla which he now represents. Samir appears frequently as a soloist and accompanist throughout India. Since 1982, he has toured extensively in the United States and Canada, in Western and Eastern Europe, North Africa and Asia. All India Radio maintains Samir as an A-rated artist. He can be heard on numerous recordings both as soloist and accompanying many of India's greatest musicians. Samir has worked with Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Nikhil Banerjee, Pt. V.G. Jog, Pt. Dr. L Subrhamaniam , Ud. Salamat Ali Khan, Smt. Lakshmi Shankar, Smt. Girija Devi and many others. Samir has been teaching for 24 years, and many of his students are now established performers. He is the founder/director of CHHANANAYAN, an organization dedicated to promoting and preserving Indian music and culture.

Pandit Anindo Chatterjee started studies at the age of five under Ustad Afaq Hussain Khan of Lucknow gharana and then had thirty years of training under the famed Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh. Today, Anindo leads his generation of representatives of the Farrukhabad Gharana of tabla founded by Haji Vilayat Khan Saheb. Anindo apart from being the greatest performers is respected as one of the most important tabla makers, teachers and researchers . Anindo's performances are marked by clarity of tone, very crisp and clear bols and an intutive sense of rhythm and melody Since 1972, Anindo has performed solo as well as accompanied leading artists all over the world. Among those who he has accompanied are Pandit Nikhil Banerjee (sitar), Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta (sarod), Ali Akbar Khan (sarod), Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur (voice), Budhaditya Mukherjee (sitar), Ustad Rais Khan (sitar), Gangubai Hangal (voice), Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia (flute), and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma (santoor) among many others. Anindo's knowledge of various tabla gharanas and their styles knows no bounds and he is a dedicated teacher as well. Many of his students have achieved national and international recognition. Among them are Bhooshan Munja, Anindo Gangopadhyay, Sanjay Jhalla and Anil Datar. |
