Why: Simplified Song Interpretations: Brick

Ahhh. "The hit."  A perfectly lovely song.  And yes, it concerns abortion.  It is not a political statement, but, based on personal experience, describes the emotional aftermath.  I'm sure we could find some excellent examples from back when the song was new (maybe someday, kiddies), but the more recent articles in this archive are not without flaws.

UPDATE >> "Brick" is a beautifully minimalist ballad about his girlfriend having some disease or something.

I like how Pete Crethary of The Blurb infers the history behind Brick:

They are probably best remembered in recent times for the chart and radio success enjoyed by "Brick", a beautifully lush number which had the masses humming. If only they knew that the song was about a guy who convinces his girl to have an abortion.
Pete Crethary, The Blurb

He convinced her? Were you there? His girl? What decade are you in?  It might have been more accurately described as below:

..."Brick", which told the delicate tale of a young couple dealing with the aftermath of an abortion.

Thank you! Somebody give Pop Matters a trophy.  In fact, Andrew Gilstrap's review has set a new standard for the perfect one-line synopsis, including several brilliant examples.
