Why: Simplified Song Interpretations: Losing Lisa (lyrics)
Is Lisa suicidal? Some people think so:
“Losing Lisa” dwells on suicidal thoughts.
– ShorthornBut Losing Lisa, a song about a suicidal girlfriend set to a cheery, chugging Motown melody, has more impact than all the syrupy ballads in the Ben Folds songbook.
– Q4 musicThe spoiled child in "Carrying Cathy" and the confused, suicidal teen in "Losing Lisa" are regular acquaintances.
– The Tech TalkI personally think this is drawing a little too much from "She's sitting here beside me, then she is gone," but I could be wrong. Others, assisting me in my struggle to understand this, pointed out that her "black tears" led them to think she may be beaten, though I tend to attribute them to mascara. (I'm not sure this qualifies as misinformation, but my initial confused reaction to reading these quotes led me to leave it in, anyway.) Either way, I don't know what gives the impression Lisa is a teenager or confused.
