Rich Winslow a.k.a "Slow"
Long ago, in a galaxy far far away Rich Winslow was born into professional musician family. Because of this, little Richie was required to start piano lessons with his grandmother at the age of five. In 5th grade, he joined the school band and learned the trumpet. His piano background was very helpful and he played trumpet for three years before switching to Trombone in 8th grade because of a shortage of low brass players. It was a blessing in disguise because Rich enjoyed playing the trombone more than the trumpet and he continued to play through high school and college. While he was still playing piano and trombone, Rich picked up the bass guitar in 9th grade. His father taught him the basics and Rich started playing bass with his mother’s church folk group. In the high school jazz band, Rich was playing keyboard. It wasn’t his first choice. He wanted to play bass but, the band had a bassist already. After a year though, the bass player graduated and Rich moved to bass. The same thing happened in college, at the University of Scranton. Rich started in the jazz band playing Trombone for two years and then switched to bass when the bassist graduated. In college, Rich also was given the nickname “Slow”. It stuck like glue and spread like wildfire through campus. In college and after college, Slow has played in many bands with many different musical genres, such as rock and roll, blues, jazz and funk. He was even in a funk band in college with Hickey Twang! One day Hickey Twang asked Rich if he wanted to join this country band named Blue Stone Country because the bass player quit. At the time, he wasn’t sure if he would enjoy it because country music wasn’t his favorite type of music. Well, he decided to give it a shot and has enjoyed every minute
