Road Doc

Chapter 3

Theresa took a deep breath and walked through the heavy door into a massive airplane hanger. She stared in awe at what she saw. Before her was a massive stage with elaborate lights, huge ‘jumbo trons’ and sparkling chrome everywhere.

“Hello there!” An older gentleman with a graying beard and very little hair on his head walked up to her, extending his hand. “Mike Ballard, staffing director for the tour. Who might you be?”

“I’m Theresa Franklin. Dr. Theresa Franklin.” Theresa said, shaking the man’s hand.

“Yes!! We’ve been expecting you. Come with me, we’re about to get started.”

Mike led Theresa across the floor to a very large group of people who were sitting in a semi-circle on the floor. There were people of all ages and sizes and Theresa immediately assumed that this was the group of people who were responsible for putting on the tour.

Theresa sat down on the floor next to a very large, very burly looking man and smiled politely.

“Okay people, let’s get started!!” A handsome man who appeared to be in his late thirties stood before the large group. “In case you didn’t know, I’m Marty Hom, the tour manager. It’s great to see so many familiar faces, and great to see so many new faces too.”

Marty introduced the crew in groups, the lighting crew, the sound crew, and so on. He introduced the accountants, the wardrobe crew, the truck drivers, the dancers. He introduced the stars of the show and then introduced the management. Then it was Theresa’s turn.

Theresa stood and smiled warmly at the crowd as Marty spoke.

“This is Dr. Theresa Franklin. She’s agreed to tour with us for the next nine months. Any health concerns or injuries any of you have, take them to her.”

Once the introductions were finished, the crowd walked about mingling and devouring a huge table of food. The tour started the next day and Theresa still couldn’t believe she was actually doing this. Adam had told her of the mega pop group the Backstreet Boys, whom an old friend of his worked as staffing director for. Theresa had excitedly accepted the position of the ‘road doc’ and would be seeing to the health concerns of five pop stars
and approximately 200 crew people as they toured the globe. She was getting just what she needed. She was going to get to travel, all the while getting paid to do what she had trained to do.
