Spellbound
chapter 3
Find Me
The club was not what Howie was accustomed to, nor what he preferred, but he had felt drawn there after the show. There were very few people, but the small size of the building made it appear very crowded. He sat down at the bar and ordered a drink, unnoticed by the group of patrons. Looking around he realized that everyone there was much older than he, and they were dressed in what could only be described as ‘biker’ clothes. Looking down at his own attire he laughed nervously to himself. His silk shirt and tight leather pants made it obvious that he wouldn’t know a Harley from a Hot Wheels and he was suddenly rather uncomfortable.
Find Me
The words echoed in his head as he thought back to the woman in the crowd earlier that night. Something about her had thrown him off and his performance had suffered because of it. He silently admonished himself as he finished his drink in one long swallow. He ordered another drink, this time a double, and turned around to face the rest of the bar.
Find Me
A slight tingle ran up his arm as he scanned the crowd, all the while turning the silver ring with his thumb. He smiled politely at a group of older women who were looking him up and down. His eyes caught a glimpse of red on the other side of the bar and his heart began to pound heavily in his chest. He could only see the back of a woman’s head, her hair like liquid fire flowing down her back. The tingling in his arm moved upward into his neck and slowly crept into his head. He squeezed his eyes tight and opened them again to clear his blurring vision.
Find Me
His legs weak, he stood and made his way through the crowd, never losing sight of the red head on the other side of the tightly woven crowd. His head began to spin, the tingling making his ears burn, his mouth dry, his eyes blur.
Find Me
Just as he stepped up to the woman, she turned to face him. It was her, the woman from the concert, the one who had stared at him so contentedly, the one who had made him flushed and confused. It was the woman who had smiled so seductively at him and then faded like a ghost into the crowd.
