chapter 4
"Feeling better?" she asked softly, her lips curving into a smile.
"Yeah. I guess," he answered.
"Ready to go out into the world?"
"Ready as I'll ever be," he said, trying to smile. Rhiannon took him back to his house so he could shower and change clothes. When he looked at himself in the mirror, he didn't notice any changes in his appearance. He was still tanned and looked healthy. He wondered how long it would be before he began to get pale and sickly looking, like vampires in the movies. But Rhiannon wasn't sickly looking. She looked very healthy, in fact. Pale, but healthy. Another question to ask her, he thought.
"So what do you want to do tonight?" she asked calmly.
"I don't know. What do you usually do?" he replied, feeling a little nervous.
"Well, we could see a movie. I like doing that. Or we could go to a club. Dance. That kind of thing.
" "Hmmmm movie, then a club," Kevin said, smiling.
"Alright then. Let's go." Rhiannon pulled on her leather jacket and they headed out into the night. After the movie, they went to a club that Rhiannon frequented called Le Chat Noir. When they entered, Kevin felt something strange. A presence that unnerved him.
"Lorelei," Rhiannon said, taking Kevin's hand. "That's what you're feeling. Lorelei and Stephen. They're here."
Kevin nodded. He was getting a little nervous about seeing Lorelei again. And who was this Stephen character? Rhiannon led Kevin through the mob of people to the back of the club. He noticed Lorelei immediately. Her glossy blonde hair shining purple under the black lights. A slow smile crept over her face when she saw him. She looked at Rhiannon and slowly shook her head in disbelief. Kevin then focused on Stephen, who was sitting in the back of the booth. He was one of the most handsome men Kevin had ever seen. His black hair was just long enough to touch his collar, and he had the same liquid satin skin as Rhiannon and Lorelei, only not as pale. He had incredible eyes, too. They looked brown, but then they could be green, and but then again, they looked sort of blue too. Cat's eyes...
"So," said Stephen, "this is Kevin..."
Rhiannon sat down at the booth and motioned for Kevin to sit also. He scooted in beside her.
"You're too soft hearted," Lorelei said, smirking at Rhiannon. "I can't believe you did that."
"Well I couldn't let him die," Rhiannon said, narrowing her eyes.
"Why not?" Stephen asked, an amused smile on his face. "I know, he's beautiful, but what's so special about this one?"
Kevin didn't like how they were talking about him like he wasn't there. He frowned. "Um, guys, I'm sitting right here. And if you don't think there's anything special about me, then fuck you, you prick. And you," he said, turning his attention to Lorelei,"you left me for dead, you bitch. How dare you?"
Stephen burst into laughter. "I like this one, Rhiannon. He has balls." Stephen's Irish accent was evident to Kevin, even over the loud music. "I do wish you had consulted with me before you made a new one, though."
"There wasn't time, Stephen," Rhiannon said, feeling his chastisement.
"I understand," he said, smiling. "You wanted to save him. I probably would have done the same thing. Shame on you, Lorelei. You know we don't kill such beautiful, beautiful creatures as this. Were you jealous?
"Jealous?" Lorelei exlaimed. "Why on EARTH would I be jealous of him? He was a mortal."
"But there was a reason you chose him," Stephen said, smiling. He knew the reason. He just wanted to torture her a bit longer.
"Stop, Stephen," Rhiannon said, taking pity on Lorelei.
"No. I want to hear her say it. Tell me, Lorelei. Why were you jealous of Kevin?" Stephen said, raising an eyebrow.
"I wasn't!" Lorelei insisted.
"Yes you were. Tell me why," Stephen said again, smirking.
Lorelei sat silently for a moment. "Because. He's beautiful. And Rhiannon..."
"It's ok. You don't have to answer him," Rhiannon said, casting a hateful glare at Stephen. Stephen just smiled and turned to Kevin.
"So, Kentucky boy, you're one of us now, eh? I hope Rhiannon has been teaching you all she knows. Listen to her. She's very smart and she knows what she's talking about," Stephen said, stirring his drink with a one of those little straws. He didn't drink it, of course. Vampires don't drink. They do, however, have to appear to blend with the crowd.
Kevin stared at Stephen. He could feel a stirring in his body. Arousal? Surely not. Not... from looking at a man... He had never... Rhiannon held Kevin's hand and smiled.
"Don't worry," she said. "I'll explain it all to you later.
"Stop doing that," he said, referring to her listening to his thoughts.
"Sorry," she said, smiling, "You're just sitting so close to me. It's hard not to listen. Come on. Dance with me."
She took his hand and led him to the dance floor, where the music raved and the bass was so loud they could feel it. Kevin grabbed her around the waist and they danced a sensuous grind. He could feel his arousal growing. He was getting an erection. Damn it! Why now? This shit happened to NICK, not KEVIN. Kevin was a grown man... he didn't go around getting hard-ons over nothing. Rhiannon laughed.
"It's normal," she said. "Everything will settle down soon. Just give it a few days."
"Damn, I think I just need to go home and hide until all this shit stops. I feel like a fucking teenager," he said, shaking his head.
"Not tonight," she said. "Tonight you have to feed."
"Oh God," he moaned. He wasn't sure if he could do this. But just thinking about it... he could feel the thirst begin. It continued to grow and grow, like a passion inside his body. His stomach ached. His body cried out. He could feel the blood of every person in the room, and he was in agony.
"Would you like for me to choose?" Rhiannon asked, speaking directly into his ear, running her tongue over his lobe. She ran her hand up the back of his neck, into his hair. Kevin felt a tingle travel all the way down his spine.
"Yes. Please." he replied. Rhiannon pulled back and smiled. She turned around, her back to his chest, and they continued to dance. She held her arms over her head, then draped them back over his shoulders. Kevin kissed her shoulder and ran his hands down over her breasts to her stomach, pulling her back against his hardness. She scanned the room, and found a cute guy staring at them. Tall, blonde, blue eyed. Slightly muscular build. Cute, but not beautiful. Sexy, but in a frat boy kind of way. He was obviously drinking heavily, the way he leered at them. Rhiannon smiled at him. A sexy, seductive smile. This was the one. Kevin's first...
