The Heresy Legacy
Heresy was first formed in December of 2001 when original members guitarist Sean Thomas,
singer Tyler Deakins, drummer Lance LaMacchia, and bassist Alex Dawson decided to start a classic metal band, with music similar to that of Black Sabbath.
Over the course of about 3 months, Heresy had written only 1 original song and were writing 2 more. Because of musical and creative
differences, Alex was kicked out of the band. Heresy went on practicing for about 2 weeks. In that 2 weeks, Alex begged to be let back in the
band, and they gave him one last chance on the grounds that he was to not mess around as much and not to whine as much. He met this
criteria for around 2 more weeks, until one final moment in Lance's garage. Alex refused to write a part to one of the songs they were working on,
and was complaining about the type of music Heresy was writing. In the heat of the moment, Tyler informed him to leave not only the garage,
but the band. For keeps.
For a month Heresy kept the remaining 3 members together, writing 1 more song and working on completing another. Somewhere during that
month, Lance couldn't make it to one of the practices at Sean's house, and they had Sean's brother Ryan fill in for him. When Heresy was
playing with Ryan they suddenly realized how much better he was then Lance, and decided to replace him with Ryan.
Heresy went on to write 2 more songs in the course of about a month, still keeping close to their classic metal roots, although having some
doubts about whether or not they wanted to continue with their current material. The dawning of what is now Heresy was conceived in the
flowering month of June among the fresh scent of the pines as the remains of the year's winter slowly melted and disappeared into
the soft earth. Tyler had taken a short leave from the life he had created and spent it in the woods of northern California. There he was struck by
an epiphany. An epiphany that would change the face of Heresy as we know it.
When Tyler returned from his trip he had several new sets of lyrics and a new idea of what Heresy should be. Heresy threw their old songs out
and changed their style from classic metal to blues rock, starting over with nothing but one haunting guitar melody and a few sheets of new
lyrics.
Since then, Heresy has written a number of original songs, and has many more in the process of being born. Tyler has
vastly greatened his singing ability from whence he started, and contributes more than enough with his brilliant lyrics. Sean has proved
himself as Heresy's lead guitarist, and Ryan is an outstanding young percussionist whose talants reach beyond that of conventional drums to bongos & shakers. Jason Translateur, keyboardist who joined Heresy in the midst of August, is now no longer in the band, as is former bassist Stephanie Klaren. Her position in the band was filled by Matt Craig, who then left the band in December of 2003. After jamming with several people, Paul Krsnik stepped in, but has since been replaced by Brandon Mercer who is currently the bassist for Heresy.
Heresy has come a long way from its roots. They have grown and changed for the better, and continute to amaze themselves day after day.
Heresy will go on for years to come, and nobody can guess what will happen next.
