Distance

Distance

I am half-full;
remembering
kisses that taste like eternity,
the feel of work-roughened hands
on heated skin, likened to
swimming with the stars and moon.
Laying beneath this movie-set sky
littered with too-close backlit stars,
it's impossible to feel distance.

Falling, half-empty this time;
whispering secrets between tears
and candlelight memories of kisses--
missing my childhood like lost knowledge.
Cold-metal words escaping, attacking
like too many angered hornets.
The stars have always seemed inviting,
especially when I'm alone.
