- 29 MAY 2004 EHRLICH, Cyril (Piano historian)
Ehrlich, died aged 78, and who pioneered the economic history of colonial east Africa before embarking on a second career as a historian of the piano industry in Europe and America, and of the music profession in Britain. His writing and generosity with advice inspired a growing circle of younger scholars.

Mrs. Dorothy J. Pierce of Haines City made a living by
playing
the trombone when she was younger and was a member of the Chicago
Women's
Symphony. ~ age 74.

Pianist Ronald Smith, has died at age 82 He performed a wide range of music with great distinction, he was particularly associated with the music of the French composer-pianist Charles-Valentin Alkan, a contemporary of Chopin and Liszt.
- 23 MAY 2004 LEIGH, Adele (Lyric Soprano)
Adele Leigh, Star at Covent Garden and Vienna Volksoper. ~ Age 75.
THE London-born lyric soprano Adele Leigh was a member of the newly formed Covent Garden Opera Company for a decade from 1948. Adčle Leigh, who has died aged 75, was a principal soprano at Covent Garden for eight years, from 1948 to 1956, and was known as much for her personal charm on stage as for her singing.

The prolific author Percy M Young, age 91, was best known for his books about the life and music of Sir Edward Elgar. Most of Young's more than 60 published works were on music, but a some were on football.
