Where The Heart Is

Novalee Nation hates the number 7. She is 17 years old, 7 months pregnant, parked in aisle 7 of Wal-Mart, with $7.77 to her name, when her boyfriend Willy Jack drives off and leaves her in Sequoyah, Oklahoma. She secretly lives in the Wal-Mart store until her daughter Americus is born six weeks later. This causes her to get national recognition as the mother of the "Wal-Mart baby". She befriends a religious but promiscuous woman named Sister Husband, as well as a woman with many kids and terrible man trouble named Lexie Coop. She becomes friends with the Wal-Mart photographer, who helps her start a career in photography. She also falls in love with Forney Hull, the local librarian. With the help of these people, she rebuilds her life in Sequoyah.
