Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey was born James Eugene Carrey on January 17, 1962 to Percy and Kathleen Carrey in Newmark, Ontario, Canada. He was a humorous child and used that humor as a way to deal with the hardships his family faced. His grandparents were alcoholics. At the age of 13, his father was laid off from his job, sending the family into financial chaos. His mother took lots of pain pills as a way to deal with her problems. She is what Jim calls "a professional sick person". At the age of 16, Jim dropped out of high school to work at the family janitorial job in the Titan Wheels factory. They eventually quit and moved into a VW camper, and then a tent that was pitched on a sister's lawn. His father encouraged him to pursue his dream of being an entertainer and helped him write some comedy routines. In 1981, at the age of 19, he moved to LA with $1,000. Jim married Melissa Womer in 1987. Together, they had a daughter, Jane Carrey. The marriage ended in divorce in 1995. He got his big break in 1994 with the movie Ace Ventura, Pet Detective. Also in 1994, he had a big box office hit with Dumb & Dumber, in which he co-starred with Jeff Daniels. In 1997, he scored another huge hit with Liar, Liar. While filming this movie, he married actress Lauren Holly on September 23, 1996. Ten months later on July 29, 1997, they divorced. In 1998, he released his first big screen drama The Truman Show. He was briefly engaged to actress Renee Zellweger in 2000, but the relationship ended before they married. Also in 2000, he played the role of The Grinch in Ron Howard's box office adaptation of How The Grinch Stole Christmas. In 2001, Jim has continued to expand his acting abilities with a dramatic role in the film The Majestic. Now becoming recognized as not only a comedian, but a talented actor who can play many types of diverse roles, the future looks nothing but bright for Jim Carrey.
