I am Reader Andrew Moulton. I was tonsured in the Bulgarian Diocese of the OCA by Archbishop Kiril (Yonchev) in 1989. I have about 12 years total experience directing choirs in both the Bulgarian and Antiochian jurisdictions in the USA, but right now I'm functioning as a reader and sing in my parish choir. I was first singing in an Orthodox choir at a very young age in 1977 in a parish of the Moscow Patriarchate in the USA. I am almost completely fluent in what I call "Russian plain chant," as practiced by most parishes in the Orthodox Church in America. I published my first book of plain chant, harmonized troparia in 2001, which is available from St. Raphael Press. Since early 2001, I've been applying myself to learning and arranging some of the older monophonic chants, including Valaam and Znamenny Chant. When I'm actually making money to support my family, I'm a program assistant in the Center for Russian and East European Studies at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. I am also a graduate student there. |
