Game one of Skid's season at Citi. May 9th - GAME #35 vs Philadelphia Phillies (15-17)
The Mets start Jenrry Mejia (3-0) against Roberto Hernandez (2-1). The Mets designated Omar Quintanilla for assignment and recalled SS Wilmer Flores from Las Vegas to help with the lack of offensive production not just from the shortstop position but rampant throughout the Mets lineup. Mets pitchers are still without a hit this year, setting a MLB record for season starting at bats without a batting average.

16-18

Yet another game of missed opportunities as the Mets left 15 men on base, failing to score more than one run with the bases loaded in the first two innings. The Phil's Marlon Byrd beat his former team with an 11th inning double in his first game at Citi since being traded to Pittsburgh last summer. Lucas Duda sat out the game feeling ill. He couldn't have felt much better afterwards watching the Mets continue to struggle to score runs. Starter Jenrry Mejia struggled also allowing 6 hits and 3 walks while throwing 101 pitches in 4 2/3 innings leading to an early exit. "New" shortstop Wilmer Flores went 2 for 5 but left 5 men on base. That was not as bad as Curtis Granderson. Despite driving in the first Mets run in the 1st inning, Curtis left 6 runners on base. The Mets bullpen gave up no runs and only 1 hit in 5 1/3 innings before the Phillies touched up Carlos Torres for 2 hits, 2 walks, and 1 run in the 11th.

I watched this game on my Xbox while babysitting my year and a half old granddaughter. She often looks at the game but with her short attention span she quickly wanders to find toys or books to occupy herself. Grandpa [that's me] missed a bit of the game while playing with her throughout the house and backyard. But I didn't miss much. Another crappy game in May. What happened to that above average Mets team from back in April that had the Wild Card spot firmly in it's grasp? Why did I have this feeling that winning was just a fleeting moment come May. Because of Mets history since 2007. It's gotta change soon.

The Mets are 2-4 in extra inning games this season.
