May 11th - GAME #37 vs Philadelphia Phillies (17-18)
Jon Neise (2-2) goes against Cole Hamels (0-2). Manager Terry Collins has decided to rest four starters today, OF Curtis Granderson, 1B Lucas Duda, SS Wilmer Flores and C Travis d'Arnaud. Jerry Mejia's start Wed. against the Yankees at Citi Field seems to be in jeopardy as the Mets think about other options such as a callup of one of their AAA starters, Jacob DeGroom or Rafael Montero.

The Mets had 16 hits today and left 17 on base. What looked like another futile loss was saved with a 3 run ninth and Ruben Tejada's walk off single in the 11th. Daniel Murphy's two run homer in the bottom of the ninth helped get the Mets to within one run and Chris Young's single [snapping an o fer 18 streak] and Juan Lageres groundout led to extra innings. Tejada's hit was his second of the day, the previous double breaking his 0 fer 17 streak. The bullpen gave up 5 walks in five innings yet only surrendered 1 run on one hit. Eric Campbell picked up his first MLB hit leading off the fourth with a single to center. Today's win was the Mets third walk off so far this season.
I got the game in today after picking up my mother and accompanying her to her church, then breakfast. After my Mother's Day duties were finished, I watched the game while trying to write out my thoughts on yesterday's loss. So I did a little more listening than watching. It looked like yet another similar game as what I'd seen the last two weeks until the ninth inning rally. And to see Ruben Tejada get a shaving/whipped cream towel in the face was a delight considering how his struggles and under appreciation by Mets fans have progressed this year [When Ike got his towel in the face, he was traded shortly after]. It only takes a few things to happen to turn a game from a L to a W. A lot of those things had been missing for a couple weeks. Now it's time to play the Yankees, first in "The house that Jeter built" then in the house that memorializes the Dodgers. The Mets won all four games of the Subway Series last season. Let's hope that the tide has turned more toward April's accomplishments than May's ways.
