May 14th - GAME #40 vs New York Yankees (19-19)
The Subway Series moves to Citi Field with Rafael Montero making his MLB debut against Masahiro Tanaka (5-0). After whooping the Yankees in their own backyard for two games, the Mets have really made some changes to the roster. Jenrry Mejia has moved to the bullpen and Montero is taking his spot in the rotation. Dillon Gee has gone on the disabled list with a strained right lat muscle [whatever that is]. He is expected to only miss two starts. Jacob deGrom was called up from AAA Las Vegas and will make his MLB debut tomorrow in Gee's place against the Yankees.

I don't know if the Mets even had a chance before this game started. Yankee "rookie" Masahiro Tanaka tossed his first MLB complete game shutout and his 34th consecutive win [8 in MLB, 26 in Japan]. Rafael Montero pitched well but on this night a win was not in the cards. Only four hits for the Mets as they reverted to their weak offensive ways. Hopefully it was the opposing pitcher and not a trend back to the run scoring struggles of the first week of May. Eric Young's double was the only extra base hit the Mets could muster.
The exciting thing about this game was being able to watch it on my new TV. After getting it mounted and set up last night, I watched most of the Mets walloping of the Yankees on the MLB.tv app on the smart TV. I was very excited to be able to watch the Mets on my new toy. Of course MLB.tv proved to be lacking yet again as it lost signal a couple times and locked up enough that at 1:30 in the morning I decided to forgo watching the last few innings. It was a pretty long game as it was. Today's game would not let me start from the beginning so I watched live starting in the 4th inning. The app locked up a couple times but I would switch over to ESPN (where I could not stand the announcers) then retry the MLB.tv app. Stuff like this is reason #235 why I want to spend the summer at Citi Field.
Beating the Yankees twice in their own park was pretty cool as they were certainly not close games and the Mets scored early and often. I loved the section of seats in left field that was full of Mets fans wearing orange on Monday. This is the group that I would love to be in the middle of. Especially with this type of game outcome.
