August 2nd - GAME #110 vs San Francisco Giants (59-50)
Rookie of the year candidate Jacob deGrom (5-5) goes against newly acquired Giant Jake Peavy (0-1)
53-57 |
What a awesome game! Great pitching duel between deGrom and Peavy with both pitchers going into the 7th having not allowed a hit. Peavy was perfect until the hit by Daniel Murphy. Both hurlers were backed by great catches in the outfield by the Mets Juan Lagares and Eric Young and the Giants Hunter Pence. A huge rally by the Mets after breaking up Peavy's perfect game. Mejia came in and sealed the win to get his 16th save.
My wife and I had a dinner date with friends at 5pm so I only got to see the first inning before leaving to eat. Since the Mets were playing the SF Giants I could not watch SNY live so I DVR'd the Giants broadcast. Once I got home the game was over. I started the DVR and had the game going while I puttered around the house. There wasn't much going on in the game and I wasn't paying real close attention. When Sandoval got a double in the top of the 7th, I was wondering why the Mets fans were standing and cheering next to the Giants fans in attendance. I then realized that it was the first hit deGrom had given up. When the inning was over I saw the score summery and saw the Mets had yet to get a hit themselves. But the big rally in the bottom of the 7th put the Mets in the win column for the first time against the Giants this year (1-4). I have bragging rights tomorrow in church and I will have to record the Giants broadcast again since it is a 10am start here.
